The April 2009 issue of Pro Sound News takes an in-depth look at Berkleemusic’s new Producing Music with Logic online course, authored and taught by Jeff Baust and David Doms.

Doms and Baust, both full-time Berklee College faculty members, wrote the Producing Music with Logic course, which launched, with four sections, in January 2009. Both have authored and teach other Berkleemusic courses, and both have an extensive background with Logic, to say the least. “I’ve been using it since the early ‘90s, when it was called Notator and ran on the Atari ST!” Baust recalls. “It’s been one of my main platforms for doing work ever since then, so I’ve been with it through all of its permutations. I’ve used it extensively for commercial writing and production for film, TV, etc., as well as music composition projects of all kinds. I even used its notation capabilities to typeset my doctoral thesis piece, a multi-movement work for orchestra, chorus and mezzo.”

Doms has been using Logic for 12 years. “I have used it for commercial production including radio and TV commercials, soundtracks, and also for songwriting,” he adds. “I have been using it in the classroom at Berklee for the past nine years. I use it extensively in my advanced MIDI class within the Music Synthesis major.”

Berkleemusic Professors Jeff Baust and David Doms Talk Logic

Berkleemusic professors Jeff Baust and David Doms are launching their new online course, Producing Music with Logic, this January. Check out an exclusive interview with the pair here.

Says Baust:

First of all, we start with the basics, so the beginner can immediately get up and running. The class assumes that the student has some familiarity with desktop music production, but we go deep into all of the instruments, the editing environments, and the capabilities of Logic, including the power user shortcuts, so that even the intermediate and advanced users learn new things.
